Presbyterian's Heart Attack Protocol Recognized as a Blueprint for Success
Presbyterian Hospital has been identified as a National Top Performer for the care of heart attack patients. Now, its lifesaving model will serve as a blueprint for 1,400 other VHA member hospitals nationwide. The hospital was recognized for its success in treating heart attack patients, specifically rapid intervention with catheterization for acute myocardial infarction (ST elevation MI). It was one of just 36 facilities nationwide selected based on evaluations in a variety of clinical settings and sustained excellent outcomes. Presbyterian Hospital partners with local EMS to accelerate and enhance treatment and supports other initiatives to ensure that patients receive care quickly and effectively. Systems are in place to allow emergency room physicians to activate the catheterization lab. Along with these initiatives, Mid Carolina Cardiology has a board-certified cardiologist in-house 24/7. Working together, we are able to provide excellent patient outcomes. Representives from the Presbyterian Cardiovascular Institute presented its heart attack care standards at the VHA Clinical Congress in Orlando, Fla. in early February.
